India defeated West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20I at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on October 11, setting a target of 223 runs. West Indies finished their chase at 209 for 7 in 20 overs, falling short in their pursuit. The victory extended India’s advantage in the five-match series to 2-1 with two matches still to play.
Abhinav Mukund analysed the match and emphasised how an early breakthrough in West Indies’ innings proved decisive. He pointed to India’s bowling strategy and its direct impact on the contest’s outcome. Mukund credited the pace attack’s tactical approach for establishing control from the outset.
Shai Hope, West Indies captain, was bowled by Arshdeep Singh in the second over after attempting an ambitious heave across the line. The delivery swung back in from a length outside off at 136 kilometres per hour, and Hope lost his shape attempting the stroke. The West Indies skipper managed only 5 runs from 5 balls, marking the first time Arshdeep had dismissed him in T20 internationals.
“India looked very confident as they got onto the field. That’s because of great bowling plans. Arshdeep Singh had a great plan against Shai Hope because he came around the wicket for the first time in this series and cramped him for room. Hope’s dismissal had a huge impact on the result of this game,” Mukund said on his Instagram handle.
Arshdeep Singh’s performance proved decisive in India’s victory. The left-arm pacer claimed three wickets for 44 runs across four overs, with his dismissals of Hope, Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul playing a crucial role in restricting West Indies’ scoring. Arshdeep was named Player of the Match for his contribution.
India’s investment in young fast bowlers
Mukund also reflected on India’s approach to developing young fast bowlers for the future. He acknowledged the importance of nurturing emerging talent alongside the established pace attack, noting how these investments would strengthen Indian cricket’s depth in the long term. Mukund hailed Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav, who didn’t pick up wickets in the third T20I but kept things tight.
“These young bowlers need some time to prove themselves because Mayank can bowl fast and Prince Yadav can bowl in the death. They are great backups to have in case of injuries to the senior pros. The way India is developing these bowlers is fantastic. More of this will definitely help Indian cricket,” Mukund said.
