Mumbai Indians Women have been linked with a trade for USA left-arm pace bowler Tara Norris ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2027 season. A media advisory dated October 12, 2026 claims Norris will move from UP Warriorz to Mumbai Indians before the tournament gets under way.
The American left-arm pacer holds a notable place in the league’s history, and her involvement in WPL 2027 in some capacity appears certain. The season is scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7, 2027, with a mini-auction set for October 28 in Kochi.
Why is Tara Norris a significant name in WPL history?
Tara Norris became the first player from an ICC Associate nation to be selected at a WPL auction, a distinction that underlined the league’s reach well beyond traditional cricket-playing countries. She represented Delhi Capitals in the inaugural WPL season in March 2023 and made an immediate impact with the ball.
On March 5, 2023, Norris became the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the history of the Women’s Premier League. That performance established her as a genuine wicket-taking threat in the format and drew considerable attention to the quality emerging from Associate cricket programmes, particularly from the United States.
She has played five matches in the league, claiming seven wickets. All her appearances came in the first season, and she has since been seeking a place in the playing XI. Her left-arm pace adds variety to any bowling attack, and her record in the competition means she joins the two-time champion franchise as a crucial addition to their line-up ahead of the fifth season of the marquee T20 tournament.
What does the WPL 2027 mini-auction mean for Norris’s situation?
The WPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled for October 28 in Kochi. At this event, franchises will bid for players released during the retention window, as well as uncapped and overseas players entering the pool for the first time or returning after a release.
Franchises that complete trades ahead of the auction carry adjusted purse balances into the bidding. The mini-auction is therefore a key moment for all five WPL sides to finalise their squads before the season opens on January 14, 2027 at which, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women will play as the defending champions.
