The NBA is always looking for ways to evolve the game and improve how it is played. This season, the league is putting more focus on off-arm push-offs, with referees instructed to penalize offensive players who extend their arms to push defenders away and create space. The rule itself is not new, but the NBA wants officials to enforce it more closely in 2026-27.
Recent seasons have seen several high-level scorers use their off-arm while driving or creating separation. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic and Jaylen Brown are among the players whose games could be affected if officials consistently call the move an offensive foul.
