Mumbai allrounder Suryansh Shedge has been added to the India A one-day squad for the home series against Australia A, taking the place of Hardik Pandya, who has been ruled out due to injury. The three-match series is scheduled for October 6, 9 and 11, 2026, at Puducherry, with Ruturaj Gaikwad captaining the side and Devdutt Padikkal serving as vice-captain.
Pandya experienced discomfort in his right calf following a fitness assessment on September 19, 2026. An MRI subsequently revealed very mild intramedullary oedema consistent with right medial tibial stress syndrome, ending his involvement in the series. The BCCI had originally named Pandya in the squad announced on September 9, 2026, before his calf complaint emerged ten days later.
“Shedge had gone to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for a fitness assessment, and after being cleared by the CoE’s medical team, left for Puducherry yesterday,” a source told TOI.
What is Suryansh Shedge’s recent form and international experience?
Shedge arrives at the India A camp with meaningful exposure at the senior international level. He featured in three T20 Internationals for India across tours of Ireland, England and Zimbabwe in June and July 2026, giving him a sense of the demands above the A-team environment.
His India A record in the months before this call-up is equally encouraging. Shedge accumulated 147 runs across five outings during a white-ball assignment in Sri Lanka in June 2026, demonstrating consistency at that level. His domestic T20 numbers reinforce the point: he struck 131 runs for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 at a strike rate of 251.92, underlining his capacity to score at pace in the shortest format.

What are the scheduling implications of Shedge’s India A call-up?
Shedge’s inclusion carries a direct consequence for Mumbai’s domestic programme. The third and final one-day match of the India A series falls on October 11, 2026, the same day Mumbai open their Ranji Trophy campaign against Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium. His India A commitment means he will be unavailable for that first-class opener.
The overlap highlights the congested nature of the October schedule, with players simultaneously required across India A fixtures and the start of the domestic red-ball season. Shedge’s selection nonetheless signals that the BCCI regards his white-ball development at the A level as the priority at this stage.
