Former Australia opener David Warner has named his picks for the best batter in each format of international cricket, selecting Harry Brook for Tests, Shubman Gill for ODIs and Abhishek Sharma for T20Is.

Warner was responding to a question posed by the England Barmy Army on X, where he was asked to identify the leading batter across all three formats. His choices have drawn considerable attention given the current standing of all three players.

Harry Brook’s Test record and rankings

Harry Brook, born February 22, 1999 in Keighley, West Yorkshire, made his Test debut on September 8, 2022 against South Africa. His most recent Test appearance was recorded on September 9, 2026 against Pakistan. Brook reached No. 1 in the ICC Test batting rankings in December 2024 during England’s tour of New Zealand.

He has been named ICC Men’s Player of the Month twice, in December 2022 and February 2023. Brook was also named Player of the Series in the five-match England versus India Test series in 2025, which ended in a 2-2 draw between June 20 and August 4, 2025. Shubman Gill’s ODI milestones

Shubman Gill, born September 8, 1999 in Fazilka, Punjab, made his ODI debut on January 31, 2019 against New Zealand. Gill reached 2,000 ODI runs in only 38 innings, the fastest any male batter has achieved that milestone. His career ODI record includes 11 hundreds and 20 fifties, a highest score of 223* and an average of 65.12 from 69 matches. Gill climbed to No. 1 in the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings by early 2026.

Abhishek Sharma is Warner’s pick as the best T20I batter in the world at present. The India left-hander has been a prominent name in T20I discussions through 2026. He has scored 1926 runs in 62 T20Is at a strike rate of 195.13. He has smashed three tons and 13 fifties.

Brook will be seen in action in the tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Gill will be preparing himself for the New Zealand tour and Abhishek is expected to be in the field against West Indies in the five-match T20I series, starting October 6.
