Yuvraj Singh has suggested that the Indian team should arrive in South Africa a month before the start of the 2027 ODI World Cup to ensure adequate preparation time. The tournament is scheduled to run from October 4 to November 21, 2027, across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in a 14-team format comprising 57 matches.

Yuvraj, who was Player of the Tournament during India’s 2011 ODI World Cup triumph, has been vocal about the team’s preparation strategy for the upcoming tournament. According to his assessment, early arrival in the host nation would provide the squad with sufficient time to acclimatise to local conditions and prepare for the competition.

Before the World Cup, the team should be there in South Africa a month before to prepare, Yuvraj said. This recommendation reflects his experience of winning the World Cup and understanding the demands of international tournaments played in unfamiliar conditions.

Beyond the timing of arrival, Yuvraj has stressed the importance of consistency in squad selection and providing players with sufficient game time before the tournament. He highlighted that the modern cricket calendar presents challenges for preparation, with fewer 50-over matches available compared to Twenty20 fixtures. Yuvraj explained that regardless of squad size, every player needs adequate opportunities to build match fitness and form ahead of a World Cup.

“In my opinion, there should not be a lot of shuffling because I feel that you need to prepare the squad like a year before going to the World Cup, because you need experience in every position. Whether it’s the top order, middle, whoever your numbers four, five and six are, they need to have game time. Don’t think too far ahead because if you’re thinking straight away about winning the World Cup, you’re putting too much pressure on yourself. Just go with the flow and make sure that your 16 to 20 guys are ready to play. Before the World Cup, the team should be there in South Africa a month before to prepare. And looking at this squad, I definitely believe they have the potential to win the World Cup,” Yuvraj said while speaking to JioStar after the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 Schedule Launch.

India is aiming for a third ODI World Cup title after narrowly missing the trophy on home soil in 2023. Yuvraj expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating that he believes India has the capability to win the World Cup in 2027.
