Colin Ingram has announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of 41, drawing the curtain on a career that stretches back to the 2004-05 domestic season. The left-handed batter made the announcement roughly two weeks after his final appearance for Glamorgan in a Division 1 match against Warwickshire at Cardiff, in which he contributed 19 and 5.

Ingram, born July 3, 1985, began his career with Free State before earning a place in South Africa’s white-ball squads. His final season with Glamorgan in 2026 yielded 628 runs across 12 matches at an average of 31.40.

“The day has finally arrived to announce my retirement from professional cricket,” Ingram wrote on social media as quoted by Cricinfo.

What did Colin Ingram achieve in international and T20 cricket?

Ingram represented South Africa in white-ball cricket from October 2010 through to November 2013. His debut came when Zimbabwe toured South Africa for an ODI and T20I series, and he went on to play 31 ODIs, accumulating 843 runs at an average of 32.42. In nine T20 Internationals, he scored 210 runs at a strike rate of 129.62.

Beyond international cricket, Ingram built a substantial franchise career across several of the world’s leading T20 competitions, representing teams in the IPL, BBL, ILT20, CPL, The Hundred, PSL and SA20. His consistency across formats and continents established him as a sought-after white-ball specialist throughout the latter half of his career.

“A shy farm kid grew up having a dream of playing the game he loved. For just over 20 years I’ve been fortunate to have lived that every day. I love the game and have tried my best to be the best I can possibly be while enjoying the challenge, camaraderie and time on and off the field,” wrote Ingram.

What are Colin Ingram’s plans after retiring from cricket?

Ingram confirmed that he will move into coaching once his playing days are formally concluded, framing it as the natural progression of his relationship with the game.

“Throughout my career I’ve dreamed big, worked hard, made memories, laughed and cried, seen things and places I never thought possible and met so many wonderful people along the way. I’ve had a full crack and left it all out there. However, I’m not completely leaving the game. As one chapter closes the next opens beyond the boundary as I begin my coaching career. My art is complete but I hope to influence the game positively and inspire players to be the best they can be while enjoying their journeys,” wrote Ingram

Ingram, a Free State player, made his domestic debut in the 2004-05 season and went on to make his South Africa debut in October 2010 when Zimbabwe visited South Africa for a ODI and T20I series. He was in the South Africa white-ball sides till November 2013, playing 31 ODIs (843 runs at an average of 32.42) and nine T20Is (210 runs at a strike rate of 129.62).

Ingram’s transition into coaching follows a playing career that spanned more than two decades, took him across multiple continents and saw him compete at the highest levels of white-ball cricket both for his country and in franchise competitions worldwide.
