The New York Mets got eliminated from the postseason race after a defeat against the Baltimore Orioles in Monday’s series opener. They failed to make the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
During the second game of the series, former Mets star Pete Alonso, who signed with the Baltimore Orioles in the offseason, smashed his 300th career home run in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings.
The Orioles infielder received huge cheers from the Mets fans at Citi Field after his homer, along with a curtain call. However, Mets pitcher Sean Manaea didn’t appreciate the ovation for Alonso.
