Myles Garrett will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and land on injured reserve, a setback that will keep the Rams’ prized offseason addition off the field for at least a month. The news broke on Monday, after Los Angeles opened its season on Thursday with a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, a game in which Garrett was clearly compromised by the knee.
Garrett’s absence shifts attention to Aaron Donald, who came out of retirement Aug. 30 to rejoin the Rams but has yet to play. Donald did not travel to Australia and is expected to make his season debut next Monday night against the Giants. The defensive depth also includes Byron Young, coming off a career-high 12 sacks, and Kobie Turner.
