A video of Shreyas Iyer performing a coordination exercise on the field circulated widely on social media during the 1st T20I between Afghanistan and India at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on September 13, 2026. The clip was captured while India were in the field, with Afghanistan batting at the time.

The footage, shared on X (formerly Twitter), showed Iyer tracking his own moving finger with his eyes, shifting it from side to side before drawing it close to his face. The video attracted significant attention across multiple social media platforms and became one of the talking points of the match day.

The occasion carried added significance beyond the viral moment. It was the first-ever T20I between the two sides to be hosted in India, and it also marked Iyer’s first home game as India’s T20I captain. Iyer won the toss and elected to field first, which placed India‘s fielding innings at the start of the match and gave the clip its context.

Afghanistan posted 156/8 in their allotted 20 overs. India then chased the target with considerable ease, finishing on 160/3 in just 13.4 overs to win by 7 wickets. The result gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

The Indian bowlers picked up four wickets in four overs to help keep Afghanistan’s momentum in check, before a late partnership between Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi took the Afghan side to their respective total. Spinners Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy conceded just 43 runs in their eight overs combined. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 19 from four overs. Jasprit Bumrah made a triumphant return from a knee injury, taking a wicket off just his second ball of the game.

India’s chase was motored by Abhishek Sharma, who scored a stellar 32-ball 82, hitting seven fours and seven sixes in his knock. He was ably supported by Ishan Kishan, who scored 42 off 33 balls. Iyer and Tilak Varma guided India home, unbeaten on 8 and 3 respectively. The second T20I will be played on September 15.
