'He is one of them' -Vivek Razdan calls Vaibhav Sooryavanshi a miracle ahead of Afghanistan series

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made a striking impact in international cricket since his T20I debut against England in July 2026. The left-handed top-order batter has played six T20I matches and accumulated 193 runs with two fifties, demonstrating consistent performance at the highest level. His strike rate of 189.21 reflects an aggressive approach that has caught the attention of cricket observers and team management alike.

Vivek Razdan, a former India cricketer, spoke at a roundtable conference with select media outlets on September 12 to discuss Sooryavanshi’s emergence as a young talent. Razdan emphasised that the teenager’s progression has been natural and well-earned rather than premature.

“You cannot really escape exposing him because he has already played in the IPL. It is not as if you are rushing him too soon. He has already done something remarkable. Everyone needs to understand that miracles are not made, they are born. We have seen such miracles in cricket before, and Vaibhav is one of them,” Razdan said during the conference.

Razdan acknowledged the unique demands of T20 cricket and the challenge that lies ahead for Sooryavanshi. The former cricketer recognised that the teenager’s first year has been successful but stressed the importance of sustained performance over time. Razdan explained that consistency across multiple seasons would be the true test of Sooryavanshi’s development as both a player and a cricketer.

“T20 cricket is a different kind of game. He has had a fantastic first year, but moving forward, the challenge will be how he can repeat those performances year after year. That is what will take him, both as a player and as a cricketer, to another level,” Razdan added.

Managing the teenager’s international exposure

Razdan also raised concerns about how the young batter should be managed going forward, particularly regarding his exposure in international matches. He advocated for a measured approach to Sooryavanshi’s development, suggesting that patience would benefit his long-term growth in the sport.

“So now the challenge is how to handle him. We have seen him being brought into the field in international matches, and I feel a little more patience can be shown with him,” Razdan said.

Sooryavanshi, born on March 27, 2011, is currently 15 years old and represents one of Indian cricket’s youngest international players. His rapid rise from domestic cricket to the national T20I squad has generated significant interest, particularly as India prepares for the first T20I against Afghanistan scheduled for September 13, 2026, at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
