New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert has signed with Sydney Sixers for BBL|16 on a one-year deal. The 31-year-old from Whanganui on New Zealand’s North Island joins the Sixers after previously representing Melbourne Renegades in all his Big Bash cricket since BBL|14.

Seifert arrives at the Sixers on the back of a standout Hundred 2026 campaign in which he was named player of the tournament. He scored 72 off 38 balls in Manchester Super Giants’ Hundred final victory against Trent Rockets at Lord’s, underlining the form that attracted the Sixers’ attention.

“Tim (Seifert) is one of the premier T20 batters in world cricket, and his recent player of the tournament performance in The Hundred is another example of the quality he brings. We’ve admired him for a long time, and his experience, attacking intent and match winning ability makes him a fantastic fit for the Sixers. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the club,” said Sixers GM Rachael Haynes as quoted by cricket.com.au.

What does Seifert bring to the Sydney Sixers?

Seifert made his international debut in 2018 and has since appeared in 90 T20 internationals for New Zealand, accumulating 2,279 runs to sit fourth on the country’s all-time T20I run-scorers list. He also scored 326 runs at the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, including four fifties, as New Zealand reached the final.

In two BBL seasons at Melbourne Renegades, Seifert made 485 runs in total. His best performance in the competition was 102 off 56 balls against Brisbane Heat in Geelong in the BBL|15 opening game. He has also featured in overseas competitions including the IPL, PSL, CPL, The Hundred and MLC across his T20 career.

“The Sixers are one of the most respected and successful clubs in the competition, so it’s a privilege to be joining the group. I’ve always loved playing cricket in Australia and the Big Bash is a tournament I genuinely enjoy being part of. To now have the opportunity to wear the magenta and help contribute to the club’s success is something I’m really excited about,” said Seifert.

How does Seifert’s arrival fit into the Sixers’ BBL|16 plans?

Seifert’s signing is part of a broader round of international recruitment ahead of BBL|16. Ben Stokes has signed with Adelaide Strikers, Tom Curran with Melbourne Stars, Calvin Harrison with Perth Scorchers, and Adam Zampa signed with Hobart Hurricanes on September 9, 2026.

Fergus O’Neill, who moved from Melbourne Renegades to Sydney Sixers during the BBL player movement window in February 2026, is another familiar face at the club from the Renegades setup. Seifert’s arrival adds further batting depth to a Sixers squad that will be without Steve Smith for the entirety of BBL|16 due to national commitments.
