Gull Feroza fined 10% of match fee for dissent during Women's Asia Cup clash

Pakistan batter Gull Feroza has been fined 10% of her match fee after being found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s Women’s Asia Cup Group A fixture against Hong Kong in Dubai on September 7, 2026.

The incident took place in the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings. Gull was adjudged leg-before wicket and responded by gesturing towards her bat to indicate that the ball had taken an edge. The on-field umpires Rabab Ahsan and Rokeya Sultana, third umpire Shivani Mishra and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir levelled the charge against her.

Match referee Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel accepted Gull’s admission of the offence and her agreement to the proposed sanction, allowing the matter to be resolved without a formal hearing.

What does the Article 2.8 breach mean for Gull Feroza?

The ICC Code of Conduct categorises dissent towards an umpire’s decision during an international match as an offence under Article 2.8. A Level 1 breach of the Code carries a minimum sanction of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50% of the match fee, along with one or two demerit points. Gull received a fine of 10% of her match fee and one demerit point, placing her sanction at the lower end of the available range.

The demerit point added on September 7, 2026 brings Gull’s total to two demerit points within a 24-month period. Her first demerit point was recorded during a Women’s T20 World Cup league match against Australia on June 23, 2026, when she received an official reprimand for breaching Article 2.2, which relates to abuse of cricket equipment.

Under ICC regulations, a player who accumulates four or more demerit points within any rolling 24-month period faces a suspension from international cricket. With two demerit points now on her record, Gull remains below that threshold but any further breach within the same window would bring her closer to a ban.

What is the next confirmed procedural step in this case?

Because Gull admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, no formal hearing was required. The matter has been concluded at the administrative level by match referee Supriya Rani Das, and the decision is now part of Gull’s official disciplinary record with the ICC.

The sanction takes immediate effect. Gull’s disciplinary record will continue to be monitored across all ICC events she participates in during the relevant 24-month window.
