WAFU B U20: Black Satellites complete preparations for crucial Burkina Faso match
SHARE

The Black Satellites wrapped up their preparations on Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s decisive Group B clash against Burkina Faso at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

Head coach Maxwell Konadu supervised the team’s final training session as the technical staff fine-tuned tactics and sharpened the squad for what promises to be a crunch encounter in Ghana’s quest for a place in the knockout stage.

Following a 4-2 defeat to defending champions Nigeria in their tournament opener, the Black Satellites are eager to respond positively and revive their campaign. Encouraged by the resilience and attacking intent displayed in the second half against the Flying Eagles, the team enters Thursday’s fixture determined to secure all three points.

Throughout the build-up, Konadu has placed strong emphasis on tactical discipline, defensive organisation and patience, urging his players to remain composed and execute the game plan against a physically imposing Burkina Faso side.

While the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana’s place at the continental finals is already assured as hosts. Nevertheless, the competition remains an invaluable platform for the Black Satellites to build cohesion, gain competitive experience and continue their preparations for hosting Africa’s premier youth football tournament next year.

The Black Satellites know the challenge that awaits against an energetic and aggressive Burkina Faso outfit, but confidence remains high within the camp as they seek to reignite their campaign.

Kick-off at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium is scheduled for 18:00 GMT (6pm local time), with Ghana aiming to produce a performance worthy of their ambitions.
