IPL 2026: GT vs RR, Qualifier 2: Stats Review of player records and achieved milestones

Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets to seal their place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final on May 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.

After winning the toss, RR opted to bat first and posted a formidable 214/6 in 20 overs. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi starred with a blistering 96 off 47 balls, smashing eight fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 204.26. Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira also provided valuable contributions in the latter stages of the innings. For GT, Kagiso Rabada claimed 2/35, while Jason Holder finished with figures of 2/27.

In reply, GT produced a dominant batting display and chased down the target in just 18.4 overs. Openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill laid the perfect foundation with an explosive opening stand. Sudharsan scored a fluent 58 off 32 balls, hitting eight fours and a six at a strike rate of 181.25.

Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a magnificent 104 off 53 deliveries, hammering 15 fours and three sixes at an impressive strike rate of 196.23. His match-winning century ensured GT completed the chase comfortably and advanced to the title clash.

With this victory, Gujarat Titans will now take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 final on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.


Here are the top stats and milestones from Qualifier 2:

  • Shubman Gill registered his second IPL century as captain, the third-most by any skipper in tournament history.
  • Gill became the first batter to score multiple centuries in IPL playoffs history.
  • Shubman Gill also recorded the fastest century by a Gujarat Titans batter in the IPL.
  • Gill now has five IPL hundreds, joint fourth-most in tournament history.
  • Sai Sudharsan registered his third hit-wicket dismissal in Men’s T20s, all coming in the IPL, the joint-highest by any batter.
  • Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s 167-run stand against RR in Mullanpur is now the highest partnership for any wicket in IPL playoffs history.
  • Sai Sudharsan now has nine 50-plus scores in IPL 2026, joint second-most in a single IPL edition.
  • Sai Sudharsan became one of the few batters to score 700-plus runs in two different IPL seasons (2025 and 2026). Shubman Gill also achieved the feat with 700-plus runs in 2023 and 2026.
  • Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan now have 11 century partnerships in Men’s T20 cricket, the highest by any pair.
  • Gill and Sudharsan also equalled the record for most century opening stands in Men’s T20s with eight.
  • Gujarat Titans scored 19 runs in the first over of the innings against Jofra Archer, the third-most runs scored in the opening over of an IPL playoff match.
  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 19 sixes in IPL playoffs 2026, the most by any batter in a single playoff edition.
