Punjab Kings (PBKS) won their last league game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday, May 23.

Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. While they picked up two quick wickets, Josh Inglis and Ayush Badoni forged an enthraling 49-run stand off 23 balls to bring their team back in the game. After Badoni was dimissed for an 18-ball 43, Inglis took the onus upon himself to accelarate.

Rishabh Pant got a start but failed to convert it into a substantial score. Inglis was eventually dismissed for a 44-ball 72. LSG needed someone to finish strongly and Abdul Samad came as their saviour. The Jammu and Kashmir cricketer smashed 37 not out off just 20 balls to help the hosts finish on 196/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, PBKS got off to a dreadful start as Mohammed Shami dismissed Priyansh Arya first ball. In his next over, he dismissed Cooper Connolly, who made 18 off 10 balls.

Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh launched a counter-attack that had the LSG bowlers rattled. They forged a 140-run stand off just 76 balls and when Prabhsimran was dismissed for 69 (39), PBKS needed only 35 runs to win in five overs.

Iyer went berserk in the 16th over, which was bowled by Shami, hitting the veteran seamer for three sixes. On the last ball of the 18th over, Iyer hit a six off Mohsin Khan to register his maiden IPL ton. He remained unbeaten on 101 off 51 balls and it also ensured a seven-wicker win for PBKS, with two overs to spare.
