IPL 2026: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans, Match 60 - Who Said What?
SHARE

Kolkata Knight Riders registered a dominant 29-run victory over Gujarat Titans in Match No. 60 of the Indian Premier League 2026 season at Eden Gardens on May 16. The high-scoring encounter witnessed several explosive batting performances as KKR produced one of their best totals of the campaign to keep their playoff hopes alive.

After being asked to bat first, KKR piled up a commanding 247/2 in their allotted 20 overs. Finn Allen laid the perfect platform with a breathtaking 93 off just 35 balls, smashing four boundaries and 10 sixes at an incredible strike rate. Following his dismissal, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green took complete control of the innings with an unbeaten century partnership. Raghuvanshi remained not out on 82 off 44 balls, while Green contributed an unbeaten 52 from 28 deliveries as the hosts crossed the 240-run mark with ease.

Chasing a massive target, GT showed plenty of intent with the bat but failed to maintain the required momentum throughout the innings. Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, and captain Shubman Gill all scored half-centuries to keep the visitors in contention. Gill led the charge with an aggressive 85-run knock, while Buttler played a strong supporting role during their big third-wicket partnership. However, the target proved too steep as GT eventually finished on 218/4 in their 20 overs.

With the ball, Sunil Narine once again delivered for KKR, returning figures of 2/29 and applying crucial pressure during the middle overs. The victory helped KKR climb to seventh place in the points table with 11 points, whereas GT remained second with 16 points despite the defeat.

Talking Points:

Finn Allen destroys GT bowling attack

The explosive KKR opener produced a breathtaking innings of 93 runs off just 35 deliveries, smashing four boundaries and 10 towering sixes at a phenomenal strike rate of 265.71. After an aggressive start, Allen combined brilliantly with Angkrish Raghuvanshi to put the Gujarat Titans bowlers under immense pressure. The right-hander completely dominated the attack after the powerplay, leaving the visitors with no answers to his relentless strokeplay.

Shubman Gill leads the chase with fighting knock

Chasing a daunting target of 248, GT captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a superb innings of 85 off 49 balls. The stylish opener struck five fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 173.47, keeping his side in contention for a major part of the chase. Gill also shared a century-plus partnership with Jos Buttler, but despite their efforts, GT failed to secure the two crucial points.

Sunil Narine delivers match-winning spell

While most bowlers struggled on a batting-friendly surface and conceded over eight runs per over, veteran all-rounder Sunil Narine stood out with a brilliant spell in his landmark 200th IPL appearance. The mystery spinner returned impressive figures of 2/29 from his four overs, removing key batters Shubman Gill and Nishant Sindhu to halt GT’s momentum at crucial stages of the innings.

Who said what?

Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans (Losing Captain)

Looking at the wicket, 200-210 was par score but we dropped too many catches. Pitch was good, the odd one was stopping but I felt we batted well to get to the score we did. No concerns but our fielding could’ve been a lot better. We set a certain standard and dropping 3 sitters – we didn’t deserve to win this one. Looking at it that way, best to have a game like this now than in the Qualifiers.

Ajinkya Rahane, Kolkata Knight Riders (Winning Captain)

Very good game, really happy with two points. Amazing to see Allen, Angkrish and Green’s knocks. Credit goes to these batters. Preparation always has been fantastic. Talk was all about taking one game at a time. Intent was amazing, don’t forget they’re a quality bowling attack, was amazing to see batters going out there and dominating. It’s all about trusting their ability. All these guys have been doing well in domestic season. Saurabh Dubey played well in Vidarbha league. When he came here, all coaches thought he had the talent. Credit to these guys who have been doing well, working hard, it’s all about belief and confidence. Makes my job easy when you know Sunil Narine is in the team. Varun was struggling but credit to him as well. The courage to play with a sore foot.

Sunil Narine, Player of the Match

It comes with hard work. Guys have been training really well, putting in the hard yards and it’s showing. Hope it continues no matter what the tournament has in store for us. It’s all about planning what is in front of you. Every game brings a different challenge. All about trying to win the scenarios and try not to overthink. Being a senior guy and God given me the talent and health to play 200, hopefully I play many more.
