Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant becomes the latest captain to be charged for maintaining a slow over-rate at the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The offence happened during their home win against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, 15 May.

This was LSG and Pant’s first wrongdoing of the season, with the left-handed batter thus receiving a fine of INR 12 lakh, according to Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to slow over-rate offence. According to the regulations, the first offence warrants an INR 12 lakh fine, followed by an INR 24 lakh fine for a second offence.

Maintaining a slow over-rate has become a common phenomenon in the IPL this season, with a majority of captains charged for the same. Earlier this week, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel was charged with the same amount of fine as Pant for maintaining a slow over-rate during their win over the Punjab Kings in Dharamshala. Other captains to have been involved in the wrongdoing this season include Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings), Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) and Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings).

Lucknow Super Giants are ending the season on a high note

LSG have had a torrid time this season, having been at the foot of the standings for the majority of the season. However, they are ending the season on a high note, with two wins from their last three matches.

They first secured a shock victory over the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), before yet another home win against the CSK. The Super Giants chased down 188 with more than three overs to spare, winning by seven wickets after Australian opener Mitchell Marsh smashed 90 off just 38 balls.

Despite their wins over two big sides, LSG are still last in the points table, but are now level on points with ninth-placed Mumbai Indians and just one point behind KKR, who are eighth.
