Tamale City head coach Hamza Mohammed believes his side have what it takes to secure qualification and book a return to the Ghana Premier League.

Mohammed says Tamale City’s experience in what he describes as the toughest zone in the Access Bank Division One League has prepared them well for Wednesday’s playoff against Debibi United, despite finishing with fewer points.

Tamale City secured qualification from Zone One A with 55 points, while Debibi United topped Zone One B with 60 points. But Hamza insists the numbers do not reflect the true strength of his team.

“We had the most difficult zone, so our points do not make us the weaker side. When you play teams like Real Tamale United and the others in our zone, it becomes easier facing teams outside the zone because we are a very good side,” he said.

“We can win — it’s all about our mentality on the day.”

Hamza Mohammed was also in charge of Tamale City during the 2021/22 season when the club earned promotion to the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League. Although they lost 2-1 to Nsoatreman FC in the playoff final, Tamale City eventually secured qualification after topping a three-club mini-league to replace AshantiGold SC.

The winner of Wednesday’s playoff at the Accra Sports Stadium will claim the final slot in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League.
