On the other hand, the in-form Ayush Shetty had a disappointing early exit, losing in three games to Kodai Naraoka of Japan, 13-21, 21-17, 4-21.

Anmol Kharb misses a big win

The youngster Anmol Khrab had a very good chance of upsetting the former Olympic Champion Chen Yufei, but she couldn’t hold her composure and lost in three games.

Anmol made a strong start, winning the first game 21-19 and then, despite losing the second game 13-21, she surged ahead with an 11-2 lead in the deciding third game.

But then, Chen showed her class and won the next 12 out of 15 points and snatched the game from the youngster, by 21-18 and handed her a first-round exit.

Meanwhile, Devika Sihag and Malvika Bansod advanced to the second round of women’s singles after their respective fighting victories in three games.
