The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a nervy five-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 53 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, May 10. The five-time champions have now registered their third consecutive win in this season’s IPL.

Following their win against LSG, CSK are now fifth in the standings with 12 points to their name from 11 matches. Rishabh Pant’s side, on the other hand, remained at the foot of the standings with six points from the same of matches as their opponents.

Talking Points:

1. Josh Inglis has arrived in the 2026 IPL, slightly late

Josh Inglis missed the first half of the 2026 IPL due to personal reasons, but has finally arrived to show what he is capable of doing at the top of the innings. The Australian international went on to score 85 runs off just 33 balls, hitting at a strike-rate of 257.58. He gave his side a great platform, which the other batters failed to make the best use of.

2. Jamie Overton – CSK’s man for all seasons

Jamie Overton has undoubtedly been CSK’s unsung hero this season, and he once again proved that with the ball. The Englishman took three wickets, including two in one over, to make sure that the target was never out of CSK’s reach. The Surrey all-rounder has taken 14 wickets this season to be his side’s second-highest wicket-taker this season.

3. Urvil Patel, take a bow

Urvil Patel was the star of the show today, thanks to his excellent innings of 65 off just 23 balls, striking at 282.61. The right-handed batter went on to register the joint-fastest half-century in the history of the IPL. This also included scoring five consecutive sixes spanning two overs.

Who said what?

Rishabh Pant, LSG captain:

“Definitely. I think it was a great game. Everything was coming out nicely. We knew we were going to put enough pressure on in the power play because when you practice like that, that’s the kind of cricket you look forward to. But at the same time, I feel like there was enough time. In T20 cricket, the fielding standards have to be up there. Too many catches dropped and  like you said, but it’s difficult to put it on just one thing. But a lot of character shown to comeback from there was really good (on Urvil’s knock). That’s the only thing. Urvil played a fantastic, unbelievable knock like Inglis for us, we knew in the power play, someone has to take that charge and that’s what Inglis did for us. And for CSK, it was Urvil. But at the same time, the team showed a lot of character. Definitely some areas where we can work out, but kudos to CSK. They held on to their nerves better than us. Definitely, given how we started, we would have liked to aim for more, but we knew close to 200, 210 would be a good target. they got off to a flier in the power play. But at the same time, we knew that it was getting difficult and after the power play, the ball was getting older and it was sort of difficult to bat on the wicket. That came to my mind (on using Shahbaz in the final over), but two lefties batting, it was a tough call to have. You’ve got to back someone who can just go over us and again, as Markram for a lot of times for us in the past years also.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK captain:

“We started off really well in the powerplay. It’s important that we got the job done. Hats off to Josh, he played some amazing shots, we had no answers against him. After the timeout, Sanju said that we have to find a way. They were very much ahead after the powerplay. Noor and Jamie bowled really well. We knew it was a good wicket. It was a great effort. 220-230 would have been par. Some of our guys need the break. It’s humid, it’s tough. We worked on quite a few areas during the break. Still three games to go, it’s about keeping things simple. That’s our mantra.”

Jamie Overton, Player of the Match:

“It felt good. Bit tight at the end. Nice to get over the line and get another two points. (On his bowling) I think it was just doing what I’ve been doing well. Just keep hitting top of the stumps and trying to make them hit good balls off the top of the stumps. Nice to get a sort of strangle from the leg-side. Nice to get a couple of wickets and obviously to get Josh out at that point was crucial.”
