Punjab Kings (PBKS) lost by 33 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match No. 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Wednesday, May 06, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Being put into bat, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were off to a flyer with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head taking on the Punjab bowlers in the powerplay. Abhishek fell to Lockie Ferguson for 35 off just 13 balls, while Head scored 38 off 19 balls. The Kings looked to have pulled their way back, but dropped three catches in the middle overs of Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen.

Kishan and Klaasen made the Punjab Kings pay for their errors, as they stitched an 88-run stand off 48 balls. The left-hander scored a well-made 55 off 32 balls, and Klaasen top-scored for SRH, getting 69 off 43 balls. Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a quickfire 29* off 13 balls to ensure the Sunrisers reached a whopping 235/4 in their 20 overs.

The hosts carried the same momentum into their bowling innings, dismissing the Punjab Kings openers in the first seven balls. Shreyas Iyer fell in the powerplay, leaving the Kings reeling at 23/3 in the fourth over. The Kings finished the powerplay at a score of 57/3, but the Sunrisers kept chipping away with wickets.

Cooper Connolly carried on unfettered, notching up his maiden T20 century as he finished the innings unbeaten on 107 off 59. Skipper Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for the Sunrisers, finishing with match figures of 2/34 as the Kings finished their innings on a score of 202/7.

The win takes the Sunrisers to the top of the table, with 14 points in 11 matches. The Punjab Kings find themselves in second place, having lost three consecutive matches after their unbeaten first half of the season.
