The Mumbai Indians beat the Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 47 of the Indian Premier League.

Being put into bat, the Lucknow Super Giants got off to a flyer in the powerplay, with Mitchell Marsh taking on the MI bowlers. Marsh was soon joined by Nicholas Pooran, who finally looked to have regained form and was back at his best. Pooran tore into the MI bowlers, reaching his half-century off just 16 balls, his first of the season. He put on a 94-run stand off just 35 balls with Marsh, who took the back seat for most of the partnership.

The Super Giants were well on-course to post a score above 250, but what followed was a brilliant display of bowling from the Mumbai Indians. Corbin Bosch dismissed Pooran and Marsh in the same over, denting the LSG innings with double blow they were unable to recover from. Aiden Markram scored an unbeaten 31 off 25 balls and Himmat Singh scored an unbeaten 40 off 31 balls as the Mumbai Indians pulled things back in the death over to restrict the Lucknow Super Giants to a score of 228/5.

The Mumbai Indians took the fight to the Lucknow Super Giants early, as Ryan Rickelton and the returning Rohit Sharma took the Super Giants’ bowlers all around the park. The pair put on a whopping 143-run stand off just 65 balls, which set the platform for the chase. Rickelton fell for a well-made 83 off just 32 balls, but Rohit carried on, scoring a masterful 84 off 44 balls on his return back from a hamstring injury. Naman Dhir scored quickfire 23 off 12 balls and stayed unbeaten to guide the Mumbai Indians home with eight balls to spare, completing the team’s highest run-chase in IPL history.
