The Mumbai Indians beat the Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in a thrilling chase at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 48 of the 2026 Indian Premier League.

Being put into bat, Lucknow Super Giants were off to a flier as Mitchell Marsh took on the Mumbai bowlers. Josh Inglis fell cheaply in his first game, but Marsh carried on, and was soon joined by a resurgent Nicholas Pooran. The pair put on 94 in just 35 balls, taking the Super Giants off to a solid platform. The Mumbai Indians pulled things back and kept the Super Giants in check, ending the innings at 228/5.

Ryan Rickelton and the returning Rohit Sharma got the Mumbai Indians off to a brilliant start as they stitched another marvellous opening stand of 143 off just 65 balls, depositing the ball to all parts of the stands. Rickelton fell for 83 off just 32 balls, but Rohit carried the momentum forward, scoring a brilliant 84 off 44 balls. The Super Giants picked up a few wickets but Naman Dhir and Will Jacks ensured the five-time champions reached home with eight balls to spare.

Here are the top highlights from Match 48:

1) Pooran roars back into form

Nicholas Pooran had scored just 82 runs this season and looked like a shadow of his former self. He roared back to form with an innings of destruction, scoring 63 runs in just 21 balls. He began his onslaught, taking Will Jacks for three sixes in an over, and scored 16 more runs in boundaries in AM Ghazanfar’s next over. The southpaw reached his half-century, his first of the season, off just 16 balls. He has a whopping eight maximums in his innings, giving a reminder of what he can do with the bat. His mauling also saw LSG reach 90/1 in the powerplay, their highest in IPL history.
