Josh Inglis has been at the centre of debate over his availability this season, but the Australian has now arrived in India. He has landed in Mumbai and is set to be available for selection for Lucknow Super Giants’ clash against Mumbai Indians on May 4.

Inglis had earlier sparked controversy by declining retention from Punjab Kings, citing limited availability due to personal reasons. The decision drew a sharp reaction from a PBKS co-owner, who labelled him unprofessional. Previously signed for INR 2.6 crore by Punjab Kings, Inglis was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants at the auction for INR 8.6 crore, with initial reports suggesting he could join earlier than
expected.

Although that did not materialise, his arrival now comes at a crucial time for LSG, who are struggling near the bottom of the table with two wins from eight matches, level with Mumbai Indians, their opponents in Monday’s clash at the Wankhede Stadium.

Inglis also has a notable record against Jasprit Bumrah, scoring 52 runs off 34 deliveries across two matches. He notably took Bumrah apart in Qualifier 2 last year, smashing 20 runs in a single over. His presence is expected to strengthen LSG against a Bumrah-led Mumbai Indians attack. The wicketkeeper-batter is likely to train with the squad at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday evening. In 11 matches, Inglis has scored 278 runs at a strike rate of over 162, including one half-century.

Meanwhile, Azmatullah Omarzai is set to rejoin the Punjab Kings squad on May 7. The Afghan all-rounder had returned home following the demise of his mother, with the team paying tribute by wearing black armbands during their home game against Rajasthan Royals on April 28. Omarzai, who was bought for INR 2.6 crore, is yet to feature in a match for Punjab Kings this season.

“On behalf of the whole team, I just want to convey our heartfelt condolences to Azmat and his family. We are with him through thick and thin,” said Shreyas Iyeer at the toss on April 28.
