The Black Starlets return to action on Thursday afternoon as they face Ivory Coast’s Young Elephants in the second leg of their international friendly double-header at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe.

The Starlets head into the encounter determined to make amends after suffering a 2–0 defeat in the first leg, a result that did not fully reflect their dominance and attacking intent. Despite creating several clear-cut chances, Ghana were left frustrated by their inability to convert, while the hosts capitalised on key moments to secure victory.

Head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum admitted after the game that his side’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal proved costly.

“We controlled large parts of the game and created enough chances to win, but at this level you must be clinical,” he said. “It’s a good learning experience for the players, and we will work on improving our decision-making in the final third.”

The coach also highlighted lapses in concentration as a factor in the defeat but remained encouraged by the overall performance of his team.

“There were moments where we lost focus, and they punished us. However, I am satisfied with the structure and the way the boys expressed themselves. We just need to be sharper.”

Looking ahead to the second leg, Dr. Ogum is expected to make some changes to the lineup as he continues to assess his squad and offer valuable international exposure to more players.

“This second game is another opportunity for us to evaluate the team. We will rotate the squad to give others a chance, but the objective remains the same—to improve as a unit and compete at a high level,” he added.

The match forms part of the Starlet’s final preparations for the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, and the technical team will be keen to see a more clinical and disciplined performance from the young side.

The Black Starlets will be eager to respond strongly and deliver a performance that reflects their potential when they take to the pitch on Thursday afternoon.
