Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) batting coach Vikram Rathour has provided positive news surrounding Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s hamstring scare during their game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, April 25.

During the second innings of the game, Sooryavashi was seen chasing down a ball, where he stopped mid-running and grabbed his hamstring. He immediately called for the physio, and after some examination, he limped off the field in pain and did not return to take the field for the rest of SRH’s innings.

Despite looking like a nasty blow for RR, Rathour has come out and downplayed the situation by suggesting that the injury is not looking too serious to begin with. However, the exact extent of the injury will be known in the next day or two.

“He was feeling something in his hamstring but now he’s looking okay. They’ve treated him, so he’s looking fine. We’ll know in a day or so but doesn’t look like anything serious,” Rathour said in the post-match press conference.

Sooryavanshi had already made a big contribution to the game whilst batting first. The 15-year-old scored 103 off just 37 balls to mesmerise the Jaipur crowd, scoring five fours and 12 sixes along the way. A cramp or a minor knock is therefore understandable in the second innings based on how young he is.

Despite Sooryavanshi’s hundred, RR finished second-best in the game, with SRH chasing down 229 with five wickets in hand. Ishan Kishan was the star of the chase, scoring 74 at a strike-rate of 238.71.

Sooryavansi, meanwhile, is having a breakout IPL tournament. Competing in his first full season of the competition, the left-handed batter has currently scored 357 runs at an astounding strike-rate of 234.86. He is also currently averaging in the high 40s, making him a consistent run-scorer for RR.

Riyan Parag’s side, however, will need to take care of their young prodigy this season, with RR expected to be amongst the playoff conversation come the end of the season. The 2008 champions are currently fourth in the standings, having picked up 10 points from eight matches.
