Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a comprehensive win against the Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday, April 21.

Axar Patel decided to bowl first after winning the toss. However, there wasn’t much assistance on the surface, which the bowlers could exploit. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put the Sunrisers in a position of strength with a 97-run partnership off 53 balls. After the former was dismissed for 37, skipper Ishan Kishan joined Abhishek in the middle.

Abhishek took the attack to the bowlers with his exemplary ball-striking. Ishan Kishan didn’t get much of the strike, but whenever he did, he made his presence felt. The left-handed duo forged a 79-run stand off just 35 balls, much to the joy of the home fans. Abhishek was dropped when he was batting on 86 in the 14th over by Nitish Rana. The Punjab batter made full use of the lifeline by punishing the Delhi bowlers.

After Kishan departed for a 13-ball 25, Heinrich Klaasen walked out to the middle and slammed 37 off just 13 balls. This impactful cameo helped Sunrisers go from a decent total to a match-winning score. In the end, they finished with 242/2 in 20 overs.

In reply, Sunrisers got an early wicket in the third over, as Dilshan Madushanka dismissed compatriot Pathum Nissanka. However, KL Rahul and Nitish Rana kept Delhi’s hopes alive with a 45-ball 86-run partnership.

However, Delhi lost three wickets at the score of 107, as Sunrisers wrestled the momentum back in their favour. Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi forged a 59-run stand off 33 balls to keep Delhi’s hopes alive. However, they had too much to do in the end. The Orange Army restricted the visitors to 195/9 in 20 overs to win the match by 47 runs.

Key moments from the match:

1. Abhishek Sharma registers fifth-highest individual score in IPL

Abhishek Sharma played one of the finest knocks in IPL history. He finished with an individual score of 135*, fifth-highest in the competition. During his 68-ball effort, the southpaw smashed 10 fours and as many sixes. He finished with an impressive strike rate of 198.53, despite slowing down a touch towards the back end of the innings.

2. Heinrich Klaasen continues blistering form

Heinrich Klaasen has been in a purple patch this season, scoring runs for fun. Stepping away from international cricket hasn’t stopped him from tormenting bowlers in the IPL. The wicketkeeper-batter faced just 13 deliveries after walking out to bat in the 15th over. However, he made the most of the 13 balls he faced as he smashed 37 runs with the help of three fours and three sixes.

3. Eshan Malinga impresses yet again, bags breathtaking four-for

Eshan Malinga was the Player of the Match in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last game against the Chennai Super Kings. He produced another stunning display of fast bowling on Tuesday, dismantling the Delhi Capitals’ side. In four overs, he picked up the wickets of Nitish Rana, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, and Ashutosh Sharma and conceded just 32 runs on a high-scoring surface.
