Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) bowling coach Tim Southee has confirmed that Cameron Green will soon be seen bowling in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Australian all-rounder is currently nursing a lower back injury, but is expected to return to being used as an all-rounder soon.

KKR paid big bucks to secure the services of Green in the mini auction, paying an eye-watering INR 25.20 crore. The three-time champions see the 26-year-old as a potential long-term replacement for the now-retired Andre Russell.

The controversy began after KKR’s first game of the new season against the Mumbai Indians. When asked why their new signing did not bowl, captain Ajinkya Rahane told the reporters to ask Cricket Australia. CA, in reply, put out a statement confirming his injury.

KKR’s bowling coach Southee has assured that Green will soon be seen bowling in the IPL. He has been bowling in the nets, and it’s only a matter of time before he does it in a proper game. Both KKR and CA are in constant touch with each other to prepare Green to start playing as a genuine all-rounder.

“Cameron’s been bowling well, tracking obviously his rehab and giving himself back to being able to bowl in games. He’ll continue to do that. We’re in regular contact with Cricket Australia, and I’m sure we’ll see Cameron bowling soon,” Southee said to the reporters at the pre-match press conference on Sunday.

“All of a sudden, you can’t bowl in the game. That’s why he has been bowling in the nets; he has been working on getting his match-fitness ready, and that takes time. There is constant touch between us and Cricket Australia. I’m sure it’s not far before he starts bowling,” Southee added.

Green has had a slow start to life in KKR colours. In the two matches that he has played in, he has scored just 20 runs.

KKR themselves have had a poor start to the 2026 IPL season. The 2024 champions have lost both of their games so far, against the Mumbai Indians and then against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on home soil.
