The Zone One league tables saw significant movement and drama over the weekend as former Premier League giants Real Tamale United (RTU) delivered a massive blow to Tamale City’s unbeaten run, blowing open the title race in Zone One A. Meanwhile, leaders in Zone One B, Debibi United, tasted defeat, and newly promoted Sankara Nationals continued their challenging run.

Real Tamale United closes gap in Zone One A
In a highly anticipated clash at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Saturday, Real Tamale United handed title rivals Tamale City FC a resounding 3-0 defeat. Wisdom Jonas Manyina set the tone with an opener in the 16th minute, followed by Musah Alhassan doubling the lead seven minutes after the break. Mohammed Akanta then sealed a stylish victory with a superb strike in the 70th minute. The emphatic win propelled RTU to 46 points, narrowing the gap on table-toppers Tamale City FC to a mere five points, injecting serious excitement into the league’s final stages.

Debibi United stumbles in Zone One B
Zone One B leaders Debibi United FC experienced a rare setback, suffering their fourth defeat of the season in a surprise 2-1 loss to Victory Club Warriors at the Wenchi Sports Complex on Saturday. Mohammed Sumaila gave the hosts an early advantage in the 17th minute. Although Eugene Asamoah pulled Debibi United level in the 67th minute, Abdallah Anas quickly restored Victory Club Warriors’ lead just two minutes later with what proved to be the decisive goal. Despite the loss, Debibi United maintains a commanding 16-point lead at the summit of their table.

Sankara Nationals’ struggles continue
In Zone One A, newly promoted Sankara Nationals’ recent struggles continued, as they dropped points for the third consecutive game with a 2-0 defeat to an in-form Wa Power SC at the Malik Jabir Stadium on Sunday. After a goalless first half, Emmanuel Amamu broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, with Seidu Musha adding a second in the 77th minute to secure the win for Wa Power SC. Sankara Nationals now sit fourth in Zone One A with 30 points from 24 matches.
