IPL 2026: Lucknow Super Giants' strongest predicted XI against Delhi Capitals
SHARE

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will kick off their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 5 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, April 1. LSG missed out on a playoff berth last season and will be determined to start strong this time around. The franchise has largely retained its core, making only a few strategic changes during the off-season.

One of their key moves was strengthening the bowling attack by bringing in Mohammed Shami, adding experience and control with the new ball. With a settled squad and minimal injury concerns, LSG appear well-balanced heading into IPL 2026.

Here is LSG’s strongest predicted XI vs DC, Match 5, IPL 2026:

Top Order: Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant (C & WK)

Lucknow Super Giants boast one of the most formidable top orders in the IPL. The opening pair of Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh brings both stability and aggression, having dominated opposition attacks in the previous edition. Markram, in particular, has been in sublime touch in Indian conditions, showcasing his class with consistent performances, including in global tournaments like the T20 World Cup.

At No. 3, Rishabh Pant is expected to anchor the innings. Returning to the T20 format after a gap, Pant will look to combine his experience with his trademark innovative stroke play. Notably, he produced a century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the previous season, although it came in a losing cause, highlighting his ability to single-handedly influence games.

Middle Order: Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad

Nicholas Pooran is expected to slot in at No. 4 for Lucknow Super Giants, adding serious firepower to the middle order. The West Indies star was in excellent form last season and emerged as the leading six-hitter of the tournament, making him a key asset in accelerating the scoring rate.

In the middle overs, Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad are likely to play crucial roles. Badoni has been in excellent touch in the domestic circuit, often leading from the front with composed and mature innings. Samad, on the other hand, is expected to be utilized as a finisher during the death overs.

Bowlers: Anrich Nortje, Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Digvesh Rathi

The bowling unit of LSg will be spearheaded by Mohammed Shami, who was brought in from Sunrisers Hyderabad. With his vast IPL experience and ability to strike early, Shami will play a crucial role in setting the tone with the new ball. He will be supported by Avesh Khan and Mayank Yadav from the Indian pace contingent. Avesh is known for his clever variations and can trouble batters with changes in pace, especially in the middle and death overs. Meanwhile, Mayank adds raw pace to the attack, consistently clocking over 145 kph and providing wicket-taking threat.

In the overseas department, Anrich Nortje is expected to be the key fast-bowling option, bringing both speed and aggression. Alongside the pacers, Digvesh Rathi offers a valuable spin option. His role in the middle overs will be crucial, as he can control the run flow and pick up timely wickets to prevent batters from settling.

Lucknow Super Giants predicted playing XI:

Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, Anrich Nortje, Mohammad Shami, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Digvesh Rathi.
