Cricketer Liam Livingstone has become a mainstay of the English white-ball side in the past few months, but the same wasn’t the case, as the all-rounder had been spending time off the spotlight throughout the most of 2025.

Livingstone said that when he tried to approach head coach Brendon McCullum or other members of the England cricket team, he was told that there are far more things at their helm, leaving the all-rounder in complete darkness.

“I asked why; they said they wanted to try someone else. That was off Baz [coach McCullum]. [Rob Key] He said he had 100 more important things to do than speak to me,” Liam told ESPNcricinfo.

Livingstone believes that the response from the English team management left him bemused at them and also gave him a reality check of how no one will eventually pay heed to those who are out of the dressing room.

“That was a bit of an eye-opening experience about the group and the regime. If you’re in, you’re in, and if you’re not in, no one cares about you. I was asking for help, and pretty much all I got was that I care too much and I need to chill out a little bit, and everything will take care of itself,” the cricketer added.

The cricketer was left quite disturbed by the fact that people thought he was way too interested in continuing to play cricket despite reaching the highest level. The youngster believes that such comments were completely uncalled for and that he expected better from the ones around him during the tough phase.

“Where I come from, it’s not an easy route to get to play for your country. For someone to keep telling you that you care too much is probably a bit way off the mark, with what you go through and parents sacrificing so much for years on end,” Livingstone concluded.

Notably, Livingstone played a crucial part in England’s T20 World Cup 2026, where they reached the semi-finals. He will next be seen plying his all-round abilities during the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, which gets underway on March 28.
