The Football Association has successfully introduced the Grassroots Football and Education Pillar of its Women’s Football Strategy at the Ayensuano District Basic Schools Sports Festival held in Kofipare in the Eastern Region.

The festival, organised under the theme “Strengthening the Reset: Unleashing the Champion in You,” brought together students, teachers, sports coordinators, parents, and community leaders in a vibrant celebration of youth development through sport. The event was held in honour of Rev. Alexander Narh Amanya, the Ayensuano District Director of Education, whose leadership has contributed significantly to the promotion of sports and education in the district.

Among the dignitaries present was Ida Adjoa Asiedu, Member of Parliament for the Ayensuano Constituency, alongside circuit sports coordinators, headteachers, teachers, and parents who played a key role in making the festival a success.

The GFA delegation was led by Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, Women’s Football Development Manager, who educated the girls on the Women’s Football Development Pathways, highlighting the numerous opportunities available for young girls to pursue football as both a sport and a career.

Participants were also taken through the GFA Safeguarding Code of Ethics by Charity, the Eastern Regional Football Association Women’s Safeguarding Officer. The session focused on creating safe sporting environments and helping the girls understand boundaries with coaches, teammates, and others while recognising inappropriate behaviour and reporting concerns when necessary.

Adding a vital health component to the programme, Patience Boadu, a public health practitioner and nurse, delivered an engaging session on Football and Health. Her presentation covered important topics including healthy lifestyle habits, hydration, menstruation management, personal hygiene, and injury prevention, providing practical guidance to help the girls remain healthy and active in sports.

To further promote women’s football at the grassroots level, T-shirts and footballs were presented to participating schools, helping to raise awareness and encourage continued engagement with the sport.
