Premier League: Hohoe United stun Medeama in Tarkwa to end unbeaten home run in title-race twist

It was a dramatic weekend in the Premier League as league leaders Medeama SC suffered a stunning home defeat, while several key results reshaped the dynamics of the title race and relegation battle.

Hohoe United stun Medeama in Tarkwa

Medeama SC’s title charge suffered a major blow after a 2–1 defeat to relegation-threatened Hohoe United at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium — their first home loss of the season.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side took the lead shortly after the restart through Kelvin Obeng, but Hohoe United quickly responded when Fatawu Sulemana inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. Medeama then missed a golden chance to regain the lead when goalkeeper Felix Kyei failed to convert a penalty. The visitors later capitalised on a defensive lapse to score the winner and seal a famous victory.

Despite the defeat, Medeama remain top of the table.

Young Apostles spank Gold Stars

Young Apostles FC delivered a huge boost to their survival hopes with an impressive 3–1 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars FC at the Wenchi Sports Stadium.

Claude Shooting Borrtey opened the scoring with a superb free-kick before Mattias Van Amegbe doubled the lead before halftime. Issah Husseine added a third after the break, while Godfred John Arthur grabbed a late consolation for the defending champions.

The result lifts Young Apostles to 14th place, two points above the relegation zone.

Aduana return to winning ways

Aduana FC ended a four-match winless run with a comfortable 2–0 victory over bottom side Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park.

After a goalless first half, Patrick Mensah broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute before youngster Richard Yeboah sealed the win with a stunning strike ten minutes later. The result strengthens Aduana’s push for a top-three finish.

Hearts held by Basake Holy Stars

Accra Hearts of Oak were forced to settle for a 0–0 draw against Basake Holy Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Phobians were reduced to ten men after Kelvin Osei Asibey received a red card in the 65th minute. Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare produced several key saves to keep Hearts in the game as Basake pushed for a late winner.

Hearts remain third on the table, now five points behind Medeama.

Karela edge Kotoko in Tamale

Karela United secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Asante Kotoko at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Malik Abubakar scored the decisive goal in the 41st minute, while goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu produced a crucial early double save to deny Kotoko. The Porcupine Warriors’ challenge became tougher after Henry Ansu was sent off.

The win lifts Karela to sixth place with 38 points, while Kotoko drop to fifth, now seven points behind the league leaders.

With the season entering its decisive stage, the title race remains wide open as the top teams continue to exchange crucial blows across the league.
