Former India and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined INR 1000 by the Ranchi Traffic Police after his vehicle was caught overspeeding and violating traffic rules, as per multiple reports circulating in the media.

The police authorities issued an e-challan in the name of the under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act following the speeding offence which took place near the wicketkeeper-batter’s residency in the capital city of Jharkhand.

The 44-year-old was given an automated digital challan after his vehicle was caught speeding by the traffic surveillance system in Ranchi.

Dhoni has been caught in legal troubles for a second time in recent times. This comes after the Jharkhand State Housing Board sent the Bihar-born player a notice over allegedly misusing a residential plot in Ranchi. According to the notice, Dhoni utilised a residential property for commercial purposes, which goes against the jurisdiction. The plot in question is situated on Harmu Road, which was his previous place of residence before moving to his current location.

Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings are set to reunite once again for the 2026 IPL season. The seasoned campaigner will be competing in his 19th season in the showpiece tournament, having been part of it since the very beginning. The five-time IPL-winning captain has already started his preparations for the big tournament, having had his first training session a few days ago.

There are, however, question marks surrounding his availability for the Chennai-based side this season, with reports suggesting that Dhoni will not be playing in all 14 games.

The Super Kings, however, have already solved their wicketkeeping concerns, having traded Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals prior to the upcoming season in exchange for star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Dhoni has had an incredible IPL career, having captained CSK to five titles, with the most recent coming in 2023, where they beat Gujarat Titans in the final.
