The second edition of the Free Licence D Coaching Course for Colts club coaches is currently ongoing in the Upper West Region. The one-week training program began on Monday, July 14, 2025, and is currently ongoing at the B.K. Adama Youth Resource Centre in Wa, with completion scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2025.

This initiative is part of the GFA’s nationwide agenda to strengthen grassroots football development by equipping coaches with the foundational skills required to nurture young talent. The course is designed specifically for coaches working with juvenile (Colts) clubs and forms a crucial step in the GFA’s efforts to standardize and professionalize youth coaching across the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Upper West Regional FA, Alhaji D.S. Yahaya, commended the GFA for its unwavering commitment to grassroots football. “This second edition shows real commitment to developing football from the grassroots,” he said. He also encouraged participants to fully embrace the programme, noting that “the journey to their coaching careers begins with the Licence D course.”

A total of thirty Colts club coaches from various districts across the Upper West Region are taking part in the course. Participants will undergo both theoretical and practical sessions covering key topics such as grassroots coaching principles, child development in football, safety and injury prevention, and tactical game understanding.

The course is being delivered by qualified CAF/GFA instructors under the supervision of the GFA Technical Directorate. Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded the CAF/GFA Licence D Certificate, enabling them to coach officially at the juvenile level.

This programme is expected to significantly boost the technical capacity of youth coaches in the Upper West Region and contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of football development in Ghana.
