Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs was critical of Dewald Brevis and the coaches he is working with. The batter on Monday came into bat in a tricky situation for the Pretoria Capitals side in SA20, who were chasing 189 runs against Sunrisers Eastern Cape. However, the youngster managed only 12 runs from five balls. Touted to be the next big talent in South African cricket, Brevis has been going through a dip in form. “Would love to know what the coaches are saying to this Brevis boy, his not showing any signs of game management even though he’s played plenty t20s already..” Gibbs tweeted. “More responsibility must come from him but he doesn’t give me the impression he wants that,” he further wrote. “Batting is about habits and that’s not a good sign for him.” Dewald Brevis after scoring ton. (FILE photo) Brevis is the most expensive player in the history of the SA20 auction. He was bought for R16.5 million by the Captials. Last season, the explosive right-hander played a crucial role in the middle order in the title win of MI Cape Town. Six’s hitting ability of Brevis Dale Steyn started out hearing about Dewald (pr Day-vuhld) Brevis’ Six hitting ability since his junior days. But watching him calmly steer chases in controlled explosions, has been a revelation. Speaking on ‘Cricket Live’, JioStar expert Dale Steyn assessed Brevis’ six-hitting ability in his 34-ball 54 with 5 sixes, and said he was impressed at how the youngster had the capability to dispatch every ball beyond the boundary. “There has been a lot of talk about Brevis and his six-hitting ability for a while, even from his Under-19 days. I kept hearing about him and watching him hitting the ball all over the park. Now we’re starting to see it at the highest level,” Steyn said. The former quick stayed that it wasn’t slogging that the world was witnessing from the man known as Baby AB and who considers the former 360 icon a hero. Steyn said there were proper cricketing shots at play. “He has that capability, and batters aren’t looking to leave the ball anymore. They have the confidence to clear the rope, not with a slog but with good cricket shots. They train that way. They have six-hitting options to every ball,” he added.
