Chelsea Ready to Break Transfer Tradition in Pursuit of Osimhen

Chelsea are preparing to shatter a decade-long transfer pattern this summer as they look to bring in Victor Osimhen to lead their forward line. The move would mark the first time in over ten years that the Blues sign two senior strikers in the same window. They haven’t employed such strategy since José Mourinho’s second spell in charge.

In 2014, Mourinho addressed Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes by signing Diego Costa, Loïc Rémy, and bringing back club legend Didier Drogba. That trio propelled the Blues to Premier League glory. Now, under different leadership and with a revamped project, Chelsea could be set to follow a similar path.

Chelsea have already signed young forward Liam Delap and have Nicolas Jackson in the squad. However, their hunt for a proven number nine still continues. The club has Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres on their radar, both of whom bring physicality and a relentless work rate.

Victor Osimhen, currently at Napoli, is viewed as the top target. His release clause and wage demands are substantial. But Chelsea are seriously weighing the cost given their need for a consistent goal-scorer. Osimhen fits the mold of a complete striker — powerful, clinical, and experienced at the highest level — something that Chelsea lack.

Liam Delap’s arrival was seen as more of a project for the future, but circumstances are evolving quickly. With Jackson struggling for form and discipline, Delap’s brief but impactful appearances have given Chelsea fans hope. Still, relying on two young, relatively inexperienced forwards for a full Premier League campaign carries major risk.

Another name in the frame is Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. The French forward has drawn interest from Chelsea, though the German side are reportedly holding out for around £84.5 million. That valuation may be too high for Chelsea at present, especially with more experienced options like Osimhen available.

Ekitike fits Chelsea’s strategy of aiming for young, high-upside players who may be developed over time. But with pressure increasing to go back Champions League contention and quick results needed, the club might favor experience over ability.

Nicolas Jackson’s Chelsea years have been a mixed bag. He has been given flashes of excellence in smart movement, link-up play, and physical presence. But these events have sometimes been overshadowed by inconsistencies in front of goal and discipline failures. His red card on the club’s U. S. tour unexpectedly gave Delap a chance to make his mark and he did it well.

While Jackson is still expected to be part of the squad going forward, Chelsea’s need for a ruthless finisher could push him down the pecking order. Fans remain skeptical about his ability to lead the line across a 50+ game season, and that uncertainty may fuel the club’s intent to sign another striker.

Chelsea’s last successful multi-striker window brought immediate success. In 2014, Costa’s 20 league goals powered Chelsea to the title, while Remy and Drogba provided crucial depth. The model of one elite starter, a reliable backup, and a veteran leader worked to perfection.

While the modern game rarely sees clubs sign multiple central strikers, Chelsea appear ready to defy that norm. It speaks to their ambition and understanding that depth and variety are essential for a top-four push.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen could see them break with ten years of transfer tradition. With Jackson under pressure, Delap still developing, and a lack of elite finishing in the squad, the time for bold action has come. Osimhen would not just bring goals — he would inject a winning mentality and big-game pedigree.

One thing is sure: Chelsea is not willing to stand still. It remains to be seen if they follow through with signing both a proven star and a younger candidate. Chelsea may finally be ready to bring the firepower lacking since the days of Diego Costa with Osimhen in their sights.
