Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes has signed a new four year contract at Arsenal until 2029. By this move Arsenal look to secure their core players for the long term. The Gunners from London plan to continue to build a strong and competitive side under Mikel Arteta. The 27 year old defender joined Arsenal from Lille in September 2020 for £27 million. Gabriel has become a trusted and consistent part of Arsenal Team. In the last four seasons he has played more than 210 matches and scored 20 goals. He has now become one of the best centre backs in the premier league along with his partner Saliba.
Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta has always said how important is Gabriel for the Arsenal team. The Manager has always wanted to keep his team young, hungry and consistent. By extending Gabriel’s contract, the club sends a strong message of their Intentions. They are not only looking at short time titles but also a team capable for long term success. “Gabriel is a key part of our team. His attitude, his growth, and his consistency have all been outstanding. We are delighted he will continue with us as we move forward.”, said Mikel Arteta on the Arsenal website. The club’s Sporting Director Edu Gaspar also said, “This extension shows our commitment to maintaining the core of our team. Gabriel is a player we trust, both on and off the pitch.”

The 27 year old defender is known for his strength in the air, physical presence and understanding of the game. He play an important role for Arsenal in defending set pieces and scoring goals from corner kicks. He has become an important part of Arsenal’s success. Gabriel is one of the top Goal scoring defender’s in Europe since he arrived at Arsenal. Gabriel is seen as a Leader in the dressing room and on the pitch. He has played an important role in making Arsenal a difficult team to score against. During the last two seasons, Arsenal have finished their season with best defensive performance due to Gabriel and Saliba.

Gabriel had suffered hamstring injury last season. His injury kept him out of action during final weeks of last season campaign. Since then he has worked hard in recovery and is expected to be fit for the start of 2025-26 season. Despite the injury Gabriel had one of his best seasons, passing, tackles, were among highest in the League. After Gabriel, Arsenal will look towards their other key players. Extending Contracts with Saka, Martin Odegaard, William Saliba will be a priority for the Gunners. These player’s form a core of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal Team and keeping them is important for the club. Although Arsenal are looking for new signings but keeping these experienced players is just as Important as making new signings.
Gabriel Magalhaes is one of the best left sided centre backs in Europe. He is strong in the air, defends set pieces and scores goals. He is also a good passer of the ball which helps in building attacks from the back. Gabriel is often seen as Aggressive minded Leader of Arsenal’s defense. Extending the contract of a player like Gabriel is very important for the club to build in the right direction. A player like him brings Hunger, Character, winning Mindset to the team which is often needed in important matches.
