Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the big final to win their first-ever IPL trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.
Here are the top three highlights of the RCB vs PBKS, IPL 2025 clash:
Jitesh Sharma’s Cameo
When Jitesh Sharma came to bat, PBKS needed some boundaries to stay in the game and not fall too far behind. Jitesh’s innings provided that spark, as he played some explosive shots, including two fours and two sixes, to score a quickfire 24 off just 10 balls at a strike rate of 240.
Krunal Pandya’s Spell
It was during Krunal Pandya’s spell that PBKS started to fall behind in the match. Krunal used his intelligence and years of experience to restrict PBKS from playing big shots. In the end, he conceded only one boundary in his entire spell and finished with figures of 2/17 from his four overs, at an economy rate of 4.20. Even during the post-match presentation, Shreyas Iyer acknowledged that it was the turning point of the match. Krunal was rightly adjudged the Player of the Match.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Death Bowling
RCB captain Rajat Patidar reserved Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s overs for the end and brought the veteran bowler back at just the right moment — the 17th over. Bhuvneshwar used his wealth of experience, nailing a yorker on the very first delivery of his comeback spell. On the next ball, he bowled a wide delivery, which led to Nehal Wadhera being caught at sweeper cover by Krunal.
The very next ball, new batter Marcus Stoinis hit him for a six, but Bhuvneshwar showed great composure and bounced back immediately, dismissing Stoinis on the following delivery. He conceded just eight runs in that crucial over and took two vital wickets.
In the 19th over, after being hit for a six on the first ball, he held his nerve and gave away only seven runs in the next five balls. That left PBKS needing 29 runs from the final over — a monumental task that ultimately sealed RCB’s historic win.
