Viktor Gyökeres has had yet another outstanding season with Sporting CP. This has further solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s top scorers. Gyökeres scored 39 of their amazing 53 goals in the Primiera Liga. Under his leadership, Sporting has won the league for the second consecutive year. This amazing goal return has put him at the top of the European Golden Boot race. He is presently at the top of the ranking, overtaking such great players as Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah.

Gyökeres also scored six goals in eight games in the UEFA Champions League. This included a stunning hat-trick against Manchester City. He became the first Swedish player to do so since Zlatan Ibrahimović. His total shooting accuracy was also very impressive. In league play, Gyökeres made about 70.87% of his 103 shots on goal.

Gyökeres made a comeback after suffering a brief hamstring injury in early 2025. He scored several braces and became the first player to score against every Primeira Liga team in a single season. Gyökeres also received the Guldbollen award, crowning him as Sweden’s footballer of the year for his exceptional performances.

Gyökeres’ exceptional season has attracted significant attention from top Premier League clubs.  Arsenal are reportedly leading the race for his signature, potentially securing his services for around £58.5 million.

The Gunners seem to be in the lead to capture Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres. A deal between Gyökeres and Arsenal is apparently getting closer before the summer transfer market opens.

According to reports, the Gunners are willing to give the striker a four-year contract worth about £180,000 per week. The Gunners have offered him a salary of £7 million per year after taxes. Sporting have apparently approved the transfer. Viktor Gyökeres is also thought to be in support of moving to the Emirates.

Sporting might be persuaded to sell for a price of about £60 million, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. According to reports, Andrea Berta, the sporting director for Arsenal, is in charge of negotiations. He has even convinced manager Mikel Arteta to give Viktor Gyokeres priority over Benjamin Sesko.

Viktor Gyökeres may become Arsenal’s second summer acquisition after Martin Zubimendi. The personal conditions have apparently been agreed upon and only a few elements remain to be finalised. Negotiations are anticipated to pick up speed after Sporting’s match against Benfica in the Taca de Portugal final. This may turn out to be Gyökeres’ final game for Sporting CP.

Viktor Gyökeres, right now, is one of the most sought-after players in Europe. This level of signing would elevate any top team’s attack across Europe, let alone Arsenal. His consistency in Portugal has been extraordinary. Gyökeres might well be the final piece in Arsenal’s jigswaw. He looks like the man who can lead the Gunners back to their glory days. Gyökeres is a proven goalscorer, and he has also proved himself against the best in Europe.

Arsenal are so desperate for a player profile like Viktor Gyökeres. A robust, skilled No. 9 who can score goals in critical situations and regularly convert his chances. He is the type of striker Arsenal have been lacking in recent years. Gabriel Jesus is technically sound. However, he has not given Arsenal the ruthless edge they need to consistently compete for big honours. That can be changed by Viktor Gyökeres.

Gyökeres’ physicality, hold-up play, and ability to press from the front are all noteworthy. This is in addition to his lethal finishing.

In today’s inflated market, Gyökeres is totally worth between £58 and £60 million, especially when compared to less experienced stars. If they can get this trade done fast, Arsenal will have a player who can surely lead the team to new heights.
