The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended for a week on Friday, May 9. The IPL released a statement after the Punjab Kings versus Delhi Capitals clash in Dharamsala was abandoned mid-way and informed about its decision to postpone the business end of the tournament.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said that he is confident that the overseas players, who have returned home during the break in the tournament, will be back in the country before it resumes. He also said that a decision regarding the resumption of the 10-team competition will be taken after holding discussions with the Government of India and the stakeholders involved.

“I am sure foreign players would want to come back and be part of the tournament. As the IPL was suspended for one week, everybody wanted to go back to their loved ones. We will review the situation and accordingly keep all the stakeholders informed, including our franchise owners,” Dhumal told The Indian Express in an interview.

We have not had any talks with ECB: Dhumal

Some reports claimed that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) offered the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host the remainder of the IPL in England. Dhumal was happy about other nations being willing to host the marquee league. However, he clarified that there have been no talks with the ECB regarding shifting the remaining games to the European country.

“I’m also hearing this. But we have not had any talks with them. I’m glad countries are willing to host this premier tournament,” Dhumal said.

16 matches are left to be played in IPL 2025. This includes 12 league games, three playoff matches, and the all-important final. Former champions Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, are currently holding the No. 1 spot on the points table. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings have already been eliminated from the race to the playoffs.
