Former BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly has said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had no other option but to suspend the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 due to the rise in tensions between India and Pakistan. However, the Ganguly also hoped the showpiece event would resume soon.

“There is a war-like situation in the country, and the BCCI had to do this as there are so many Indian and foreign players. Let’s hope the restarts soon, as an important stage of the tournament is around the corner,” told ANI, “BCCI had to do this, especially Dharamshala, , , Rajasthan, Jaipur.”

Former England player Michael Vaughan said that the league could be finished in the United Kingdom in case it couldn’t continue in India.
“I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought?,” Vaughan tweeted.

Earlier in the month, the 18th season of the IPL was abruptly suspended due to the ongoing tension between India and its bordering country, Pakistan, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The remainder of the tournament has been postponed for one week with immediate effect.

On Thursday, the IPL 2025 match between and at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala was called off due to security reasons. This was after the floodlights at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala went off. Arun Dhumal, IPL Chairman, reportedly said that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure, based on the red alert issued in .

The Indian armed forces launched precision missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the strongholds of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke. The strikes were in response to the attack in Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were gunned down.
