Due to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the IPL 2025 for one week. The Board stated that further decisions will be taken after closely assessing the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.

With 12 group-stage matches and the knockout rounds still remaining, it will be interesting to see how the BCCI plans to conduct the rest of the tournament. If the situation does not improve in the coming days, resuming the IPL in India could become difficult.

In that case, the Board may once again consider hosting the remainder of the tournament in a different country—something it has done in the past. The UAE has previously hosted the IPL in 2014, 2020, and 2021, while the 2009 edition was held in South Africa.

Recent reports have also suggested that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is in ā€œactive talksā€ with the BCCI regarding a possible solution. However, the BCCI will also need to identify a suitable window in India’s packed international calendar.

Here are the three possible windows to resume the suspended IPL 2025:

Late May – June

The IPL 2025 final was originally scheduled for May 25, while India’s five-Test series against England is set to begin on June 20. If tensions de-escalate soon, the BCCI may look to complete the remainder of the tournament in this narrow window before the red-ball series begins.

August

India’s last Test in England concludes on August 4, and the team is then scheduled to play a three-match ODI series in Bangladesh from August 17. According to a report by The Times of India, this window could be used to finish the IPL. Moreover, the Bangladesh tour itself is under doubt due to already strained diplomatic relations, making this period more flexible.

September

The Asia Cup 2025 was originally scheduled for September, but given the current regional tensions, the tournament’s future is uncertain. Therefore, this month could offer BCCI a more open window to conduct the IPL.
