‘Threat mail’ – DDCA receives warning ahead of IPL 2025 suspension

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received an anonymous email threatening to blow up the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday. The stadium is the home fortress for Delhi Capitals (DC) and was scheduled to host the IPL 2025 clash between DC and Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 11.

However, the tournament was suspended for a week due to the ongoing tension at the Indo-Pak border. The email stated that they have Pakistani sleeper cells across the country, which would be activated for “Operation Sindoor.”

“There will be a bomb blast in your stadium. We have a committed Pakistan sleeper cell active in India. The blast will be our revenge for Operation Sindoor,” the mail read as per the Times of India.

A DDCA official confirmed the development and admitted that they have informed the Delhi Police. The official also mentioned that the venue had been inspected.

“Yes, we received a threat email this morning and have already forwarded it to the Delhi Police. They already swung into action and did an inspection of the venue some time back,” said the official.

Earlier, the Indian team’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir and right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami also received death threats via email following the terrorist attack.

IPL 2025 suspended for a week post Dharamsala match

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) suspended the ongoing IPL for one week due to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan at the border. The decision came after an air raid alert halted the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and DC match in Dharamsala.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia insisted that the suspension was necessary, emphasising that national interest should come first before all other activities. The 18th edition of the IPL still has 16 more matches to be played, and the BCCI mentioned that a revised schedule would be announced after reviewing the situation with stakeholders and authorities.
