Former Indian coach, Sanjay Bangar, complimented the “remarkable talent” of Urvil Patel following his breezy knock against Kolkata Knight Riders on what was his IPL debut. Bangar said he feels that the CSK think tank identified Urvil as someone who could be a key player for the franchise going forward.Ā
The ex-Indian cricketer also admitted that Urvil’s entertaining debut reminded him of 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre’s inaugural game in the IPL.Ā
“Very impressive, it clearly shows Urvil Patel has a sound temperament.Ā To come in and make an immediate impact is a remarkable talent toĀ have. And because he keeps wickets, you wonder if MS sees somethingĀ in him that could eventually lead to him being CSK’s long-termĀ wicketkeeper and also someone who can bat in key positions.Ā It’s a big positive for CSK. Urvil Patel was signed late in the season,Ā and after giving [Shaik] Rasheed a fair run, they handed Urvil an opportunity –Ā and he made an immediate impact. It reminded me of the kind ofĀ debut Ayush Mhatre had for them,” shared Bangar while speaking on JioHotstar.
For the unversed, Urvil came in as an injury replacement of Vansh Bedi after the latter got sidelined for the remainder of IPL 2025 due to an ankle injury. Coming in at No. 3 for CSK against KKR, Urvil’s 11-ball stay yielded 31 runs in an innings which impressed supporters and experts alike.
The Men in Yellow ended up victors by a narrow two-wicket margin with as many balls to spare. With a couple of games to go for CSK in IPL 2025, it remains to be seen how Urvil fares. With the knock he played in Kolkata on May 7, it seems as if he could be one for the future as far with the joint-most successful franchise of the competition.
