What happened in the final stages of the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) was nothing short of a Bollywood drama. Rahul Tewatia came in to bat after Sherfane Rutherford was dismissed, and GT’s score was 115/4 in the 16th over. Gerald Coetzee came to bat in the 18th over.
Rain intervened at the end of the 18th over, and GT were five runs behind MI at that stage according to the DLS method. However, the match resumed, and the new equation was that the game had been reduced to 19 overs, with GT needing 15 runs to win in the final over.
Tewatia hit the first ball of the high-voltage last over for a four off Deepak Chahar. The equation became 11 runs needed off five balls. The next ball yielded just a single. Coetzee then smashed the third ball over long-off for a six. Chahar bowled a no-ball next, which was a huge blow for MI at that moment.
But the drama wasn’t over. With one run needed off two balls, Chahar dismissed Coetzee, caught by Naman Dhir. With one run needed off the final ball, Chahar bowled a full delivery to new batter Arshad Khan, who hit it toward mid-off and took GT home.
This win takes GT to 16 points from 11 matches and gives them the No. 1 spot on the table. Meanwhile, MI remain stuck at 14 points and are currently in fourth place, having played 12 matches.
